My
involvement in travel photography began as principal photographer for a travel
guide called the " Discovery Guide to Outback Queensland". A 350 page book about
the places and people of outback Queensland. I spent a total of twelve weeks
travelling throughout outback Queensland and clocked up around thirty-thousand
kilometres by road. (Photographs
from this project are owned by the publisher and can't be shown on this web
site).
The images in the photo-gallery below are
mostly from the northern Indian provinces of Kashmir and Ladahk. Though next to
each other on the map, these two areas are very different. Predominately Muslim,
Kashmir includes the greener pastures and forests of the Himalayan foothills
while Buddhist Ladahk is a high altitude desert situated around the source of
the Indus River, high in the Himalayas. There are only a few roads in Ladahk and
many areas can only be accessed by foot. These images were taken before
increasing tensions in the region brought about a sharp decline in tourism. The
security situation, particularly in Kashmir, is still a problem, but tourism is
again increasing.
These photographs were taken on medium format colour negative film with
Hasselblad equipment.
