Photography
for publication has formed the core of my work over recent years as principal
photographer for eight books and as senior photographer and picture editor for
"Wildlife Australia" magazine. My photographs have appeared in hundreds of
publications both within Australia and internationally.
While most
of these have been natural history publications I have completed a number of
social-documentary photojournalism projects that have appeared as exhibitions,
in web sites, as multimedia productions and as historical records for future
study.
Some of
these projects are:
-
"Food and
Cultural Identity" - a photographic exploration of the role played by food and
its preparation in defining cultural identity.- for a book as yet unpublished.
-
"The Coming
of the Light Festival" - An annual festival within the Torres Strait Islander
community that celebrates the coming of Christianity to the Torres Strait
Islands. - a multimedia production for the Museum of Tropical Queensland.
-
"Sugar,
Shops and Pearls" - an exhibition at the Museum of Tropical Queensland - A study
of the role played by Italian, Chinese and Japanese immigrants in the economic
development of tropical Queensland.
-
"Women in
Sport" - A joint project by the Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Museum
about some of the pioneers of women's sport in Brisbane.- for the Brisbane City
Council web site.
My work includes
news-gathering for news media, in-depth exploratory
photojournalism, editorial photography for specialist and popular
magazines as well as corporate photojournalism for annual reports, press
releases etc.
